Hitachiin Twins x Injured!Reader: One Step Forward

Part Two

It took some time to get down to the gardens. Fitting seven people and a person in a wheelchair inside an elevator wasn't as easy as it sounded, not that that was easy either. However, as soon as you reached the door to the courtyard, you felt your spirits rise. The outdoor light blinded you at first, the sunlight stunning your senses for just a moment. As your vision grew accustomed to the outdoors, you were able to see more and more of what was around you. Bit by bit, your lips pulled into a small smile that eventually turned into a large, ecstatic grin.

The gardens were a series of vast winding paths, walled by vibrantly colored flowers and neatly clipped hedges. Trellises shades the walkways, adorned by climbing flowers and vines. Birds sang from the cherry blossom trees, now in full bloom. Vividly pink petals littered the walkway. The air itself was scented with the smell of pollen and nectar. If you listened carefully, you could hear the sound of running water, indicating a spring or perhaps a fountain.

A chorus of awed and excited voices rose up behind you. You turned in your seat as best you could to shoot your new friends a cheerful, excited grin. 

"Since when are hospitals this fancy?" Haruhi asked skeptically, shooting a glance at Kyouya.

The club vice president merely smiled and pushed his glasses farther up his nose. "The Ootori family prides itself in offering the most satisfactory and comfortable accommodations to its patients." He stated simply. "This not only includes ground breaking medical care, but also a place to relax and heal, such as a luxurious garden."

"It's perfect Kyouya." You told him gently. Kyouya returned your gentle smile with that of his own. 

Tamaki walked ahead of you, his back turned towards you for a moment as he observed the gardens. After a few moments, he turned to you and cast you a princely smile. 

"My Lady." He spoke, kneeling in front of you and taking your hand. "It would be my honor to escort you through the gardens."

You held your other hand to your mouth to stifle a giggle. "Indeed, you have my consent." You mocked, eliciting chuckles from the group behind you.

Tamaki cast you a playful glance before standing and taking his place behind your wheelchair. You fidgeted a bit for the first few minutes, unused to the feeling of not being able to walk on your own. You didn't like the feeling of not being able to do things yourself, but you supposed you would be able to get used to it eventually. 

So for the meantime, you relaxed back in your chair and watched the branches of the trees overhead, the petals floating down and covering the walkway before you.

The twins and Haruhi strolled ahead of you, chatting comfortably with each other. You observed from behind them. They talked to each other without any signs of awkwardness or difficulty. You felt a small jealousy bubbling up in your chest. You wanted to be like that with the twins, they seemed like a pair of clever, funny, friendly boys. You wanted to be close to them like Haruhi was.

As if sensing your eyes on on his back, Kaurou turned and gave you a quick glance, doing a doubly take at the frustrated expression on your face. He gave you a cheeky smile and held up two fingers, a peace sign. 

You felt the corners of your lips twitch into a smile. 

After a few minutes, the twins fell back to walk beside you and Tamaki.

"So, (Name)." Kaurou chimed

"Tell us about yourself." Hikaru finished. 

You stared up at the two of them for a moment, a shy smile appearing on your lips after a few moments. 

"Well, what would you like to know?" You questioned. The twins shot each other a curious glance, turning back to you and speaking at the same time:

"What's your favorite color?"

"What's your favorite song?"

You chuckled, looking to Kaurou first. "(Color)" You told him simply, turning to his brother. "(Song, by band)" You replied.

And suddenly,

"That's my favorite too!" Both of them echoed.

You laughed, a high light sound that carried through the trees. You paused to catch your breath, and then stopped for a moment, your lips falling into a straight line.

"What's the matter, (Name?)" Honey asked beside you, still clutching his pink rabbit.

You looked up at the small blonde, trying to put on a small small but not really succeeding. "It's nothing really." You replied softly. "I just can't remember the last time I really laughed...unless it was before the crash." 

There was silence amoungst the group, filled only by the sound of the breeze and the songs of the birds.

Tamaki slowly wheeled your chair to a stop. You looked up at him curiously. He merely cast you a bright smile.

"Gentlemen!" he declared. "I have an announcement to make."

You blinked, eyes full of curiosity. Yet you remained silent and continued to listen.

"(Name) is a Lady." he began, and immediately you felt heat rise to your cheeks. "She deserves to be happy, to laugh and to smile." He paused, letting the words sink in. "We should take it upon ourselves to make sure she is so. Every Lady deserves loyal subjects, and we should give her the joy of having friends to depend on."

You wanted to hide you face in your hands out of embarrassment. Tamaki was too much.

There was silence from the group for a moment, and you momentarily feared that Tamaki's speech would be rendered useless. But after a moment...

"Absolutely!"

"Yeah~!!"

"I agree."

"You got it Boss." The twins chimed, a smirk on each of their faces.

And for the first time in a long time, you felt a warmth bubble up in your chest, a wide grin spreading across your features.
