It was bright.
It wasn't the type of light that would sear your eyes, blinding the backs of your eyelids and making your head ache. Instead it seemed to be a gentle warmth that enveloped you and surrounded your body.
Far away, you could hear someone calling your name, you could feel your body wracked with pain. But it was a far away sensation, muffled by the light and warmth around you.
"Oh."
It was a soft voice, one that was gentle and soothing like that of a running stream. You wanted to reach out and touch it, grasp it in your hands and hold it close to your chest, keeping it there.
"(Name)?"
"What are you doing here?"
You wanted to speak, to whisper at least a word, but no words would come to your lips. Instead you could feel your thoughts ring forth, like chimes.
"I can't move. I don't know where I am, and I just want to sleep."
"Ah."
"Well, before you do that, there's something you should see."
you could feel the rough fingertips of a hand pressed to your face, and instantly, a scene unfolded before you.
His cloak was stained with blood, whether it was yours or his you didn't know. He was bent over your limp body, hands clutching desperately at your cloak and holding it to him.
"(Name)!" he was practically screaming. "(Name)! Wake up! For Christ's sake, wake up!"
Your face was peaceful in death, lips slightly parted, eyes closed almost as if you were sleeping. You couldn't hear Jean's pleas.
You could see tears beginning to form in Jean's eyes, pooling around his irises and streaming down his face. His knuckled turned white with the grip he had on your body.
"(Name), you can't die...Please..." he spoke, his voice chocked with emotion. "You can't leave...like Marco..."
You felt a twinge of pain as you watched Jean cry, his back racked with sobs. You wanted to reach out to him, to hold him close and tell him you would never, never leave him, but you were trapped her, in this space beyond time.
Jean had stopped crying now, looking down so his hair shadowed his face.
"You can;t leave before I get a chance to tell you...I love you..."
Emotion flooded your chest, making your heart ache. You wanted to cry, you wanted to scream and cry out, knowing you couldn't reply to Jean's confession.
"You see, (Name), Jean may look strong, but he needs someone to help him, to guide him. I'm no longer able to do that, which means it is up to you."
"But I can't move! I'm fading and I can't reach out and help him!"
"Open your eyes."
"I can't!"
"Yes, you can."
And with that, the light around you began to fade, to be replaced by darkness. You could hear Marco's voice as the light vanished.
"Just open your eyes."
So you did.
Jean;s face was blurry at first, unfocused. It took you a moment before you were able to recognize him.
"Jean?"
"(Name)." he breathed, his brow scrunching in relief or some other emotion, you couldn't tell. "Thank God."
"Jean." You repeated, the name sounding strange on your lips. "Jean, Jean....Jean!!" You raised your arms and wrapped them around him.
"Jean, I'm so sorry! I'll never leave you, I won;t die!" You blabbered helplessly. "I love you!"
Jean;s eyes went wide. Tears formed in his eyes again, and before you knew it, he had closed the distance between you and was planting a kiss on your lips, rough and raw with passion.
"Stupid." he muttered at last, his voice cracking. "I love you too."
A warm smile overcame your features. "Jean." You repeated again. "I love you, I love you so much."
"After all...
You're my Hero."

Reluctant Heroes (Jean x Reader x Eren) CHAPTER 2
“I can’t believe she’s still running,” you mused as you absently watched the Potato Girl run. You smiled in disbelief. Day one and she had already earned her own nickname. “It’s been five hours now, she must be exhausted.”
Jean paused on his way to the dining hall, raising an eyebrow at you before following your gaze out to the training field. He snorted.
“She seemed far more concerned about missing dinner if you ask me,” he said, resuming his stride. “Come on, I’m starving.”
You rolled your eyes, but followed him without complaint. As you approached the doors, you cau

Intense stares directed at you made you very uncomfortable while you were walking down the hallway. The grip on your backpack straps tightened, not used to this attention. Rumors have it that the flower boy, Jean Kirschtein, liked you and wanted you as his valentine. Of course you ignored it at first, but it was it seriously getting out of hand.
"Yo! (y/n) looks like you got the horse nickering for you." Eren cackles, while slapping your shoulder.
"Shut up Eren, (y/n) doesn't look too great about this." Armin sighed.
You nodded, frowning a bit. "I like Jean, but this attention is just so agonizing." you but

“Alright, hoist me up!”
Jean offered you a mock salute and leaned down to turn the crank. He kept a close eye on you as your feet lifted from the ground, the wires that suspended your tensed body creaking slightly from the strain. He had already passed the test with flying colours, and now it was your turn to show them all what you were made of.
You gritted your teeth as you wobbled slightly, but managed to keep your balance. This isn’t so bad! you thought, relaxing a little and letting a small smile cross your face. You risked a sidelong glance at Jean, ready to share your victory with your friend, but his eyes were direc
