Your dreams were filled with Titans.
You dreamt of hands, reaching with bloody fingers to grab at your cloak as you sped away to the safety of the wall. But it seemed the more you tired, the farther the wall grew in the distance.
Screams of your fallen comrades filled your ears. You felt tears sting your eyes, and you prayed that you wouldn't be damned by leaving them behind for your own sake. The wall seemed to be growing ever smaller in the distance. You spurred your horse on, though you knew it was a useless effort.
Then, a single scream split the air, and you stopped, turning around on your horse to see the most horrible sight:
"_____! Help me!" Jean screamed, his face contorted into the most horrible expression of agony and terror, a hand reached out towards you desperately as his bottom half vanished into a titan's mouth. Tears filled his eyes, and you felt your own tears spill down your cheeks at the sight of your friend being devoured alive.
Instantly, you were riding towards him, reaching out your hand with anguish towards your friend, hoping, praying that you could rescue him in time.
The sickening crunch of bones filled your ears.
You screamed, bolting upright, and immediately screaming again in horrible, horrible pain. Hurt rushed through your chest like a strike of lightning, leaving you breathless and hunched over.
Jean started at your scream, his fists bunched, eyes wild. It took him a moment to realize that you were still beside him, hunched over in terror and pain.
A small gasp escaped your lips as you tried to catch your breath, your chest heaving, pain rocketing through your blood with each inhale. Your body shook as you struggled to gain control of yourself.
Jean's gentle hand was on your shoulder, as he sat silently beside you, allowing his simple presence to be of some comfort to you.
At last, the pain died away, but your body still shook, your eyes darting wildly about the room.
"Nightmare?" Jean asked eventually, breaking the silence of the room.
You nodded ever so simply, a silent yes that he could not see in the darkness.
"Wanna talk about it?"
You flinched, the image of Jean's horrible expression returning to your tortured thoughts. A small hiccup escaped your throat, which turned into a sob, which eventually led to a small burst of tears. Jean stiffened visibly, knowing he had obviously said something wrong. He struggled to come up with something, anything to stop the tears that spilled down your cheeks.
And suddenly, you were in his arms, his chin rested on top of your head. His arms wrapped around your protectively, guarding you against any thoughts that struggled to burrow themselves in your mind.
You were silent for the longest time, tears still fresh on your cheeks, eyes wide at Jean's action.
"Jean...?" You whispered into the darkness, at last.
Jean only tightened his grip on your, not enough to hurt your rib cage, but enough to let you know that he wasn't going to let go.
"It's okay." he whispered back, closing his eyes and relaxing, causing you to relax as well. "It was just a dream."
You were still for a few moments, then eventually closed your eyes, letting Jean's tranquility wash over you. It was just a dream. Jean was right there, not in a Titan's jaws somewhere.
Jean rubbed soothing circles on your back, making you sleepy. Eventually, your lay down on your side, jean following you, one arm still wrapped around you protectively.
You both stayed like that until morning rays of sunlight filtered through the window.
