"I didn't care, for in that moment, her eyes glittered like gold."
It was raining the night you slipped away into the shadows of the night, a steady downpour that was relentless and unmerciful. The rain streamed down from the sky in steady sheets, soaking through your cloak and chilling you to the bone. The night itself was as black as tar, no inkling of moonlight or starlight to be seen above the heavy inky clouds that hung over the Hermiha District.
Your breath came in quick, shallow gasps as you ran, legs carrying you through the dampened and dark streets of the district quickly and quietly. Your bare feet splashed through puddles, having long ago abandoned your soaked shoes. The sound was muffled by the torrent of rain that poured forth from the sky.
The chill of the night seemed to bite through your cloak and dress, soaking into your bones and very being.
"Brainless little girl"
Tears stung your eyes, meshing with the rain flowing down your face. A sob choked your throat, bubbling inside and trying to escape.
Lightning flashed overhead, causing you to yelp in surprise. The sound was muffled by the thunder that tore through the sky. You paused in fear, a tad of terror racing through your body and freezing you in place.
You closed your eyes, trying to block out the words, to no avail. They resounded and pounded inside your thoughts, leaving no room for hesitation or second thoughts.
"I hate you!"
"I never want to see you again!"
The harshness of the words finally loosed the sob from your throat. The sound was choked as you tried to bite it back, a gurgle that bubbled up your throat and escaped into the night air.
You finally let it wash over you, the sobs and cries that you had held in for far too long. choked cries poured from your lips, evidence of your pain and unhappiness.
You hesitantly set your foot forward, putting one foot in front of the other until you were walking steadily through the rain, each step bringing you farther from those horrible words. And from home.
You continued forward. Away from everything familiar, along a path staked with risk and lined with hope. A path towards the blue sky where black and white birds danced.
